What's new in ChessMend

Every release, newest first. Updates are included while your licence is active — and forever with the Founder's Lifetime.

1.1.0
  • New: Exams & Survival Challenges — "Five Moves No Mistakes" and "Six Moves No Mistakes," a short, repeatable drill distinct from the full Opening Coach exams. The opponent opens with two fully random legal moves — genuinely anything, not just sensible theory — then plays its own best move from there on; your first several replies are graded on one running win-probability budget rather than a flat per-move cutoff, so the same size slip counts for less once the position is already decisive and for more in a close one.
  • New: Show Best Move and Undo Last Move are both available mid-drill for exploration — using either during a graded move fails that attempt, but the board stays live afterward as free play so you can keep following the position out.
  • New: an "Automatic Opponent Move" toggle for Opening Coach — turn it off to play a move on the opponent's behalf yourself (say, to see what happens if they grab a piece instead of finding the top engine reply) before handing control back.
  • New: "Next Challenge" alongside "Try Again" on every drill — Try Again replays the identical opening you just saw; Next Challenge rolls a fresh one.
  • Improved: several windows now remember their size and position between sessions.
  • Fixed: a stray checkmate/stalemate marker no longer lingers on the board after taking a move back.
1.0.0 Launch
  • First public release of ChessMend for Windows.
  • Import from chess.com and lichess.org, with Stockfish analysis bundled in.
  • Spaced-repetition puzzles generated from your own blunders, scheduled with a Leitner box.
  • Full game review with eval graph, move-quality tiers and a move navigator.
  • Daily Puzzle Challenge, Training Advisor coaching notes, and Stats with Smart Elo.
  • Bot play from ~300 to ~2800 Elo, custom handicap games, and twenty opening-trap tutorials.
  • Opening Stats: every opening you've played, scored and sorted by color, with a "Focus on" pick for what's actually costing you rating.
  • Opening Coach: 16 hand-built repertoires across White and Black, with a coach that varies its replies, two-step hints, and mistake-specific feedback.
  • Engine territory: once an Opening Coach line runs past its authored moves, Stockfish takes over both sides at full strength — the board switches to a distinct teal-green to make the shift obvious.
